We decided to take a trip to the largest open pit copper mine in the United States for Father's Day. We had the whole fam damily come along for an intersting day learning about the mine. The visitors center takes you up toward the top of the mine and allows partial view down into the mine. It was good to have a former employee of Kennecott (Grandpa Kerry) there to explain the mining operation to us.
Yes we even got Zak to go with us.

Apparently Vans are back in style.
Inside the visitor's center there are exhibits, what nots, and what have you's that share information about mining, minerals, and the history of the mine. And of course there are plenty of buttons for kids to push.
You are not allowed to have food or drink in the visitors center. Jace smuggled in a drink and felt bad so he decided to share it.
And the item that gets the most attention at the mine is the large dump truck tire. This is a rare photograph. The reason it is rare you may ask. It is one of the only pictures that exist of the tire without a family standing in front of it.All in all it was a fun excursion. Happy Father's Day!
